Our #OnePerson for June 2025 is Olumide Idowu
Olumide Idowu, widely known as “Mr. Climate”, is a prominent Nigerian climate change activist and youth campaigner. He co-founded the International Climate Change Development Initiative (ICCDI Africa) in 2016, aiming to build climate-smart generations across Africa through education, innovation, and advocacy. He also co-founded the Nigerian Youth Climate Coalition and launched Climate Wednesday in 2013, a weekly online platform fostering discussions on climate change and sustainable development.

Idowu’s activism began during his undergraduate studies in Statistics at the University of Abuja, where he obtained a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in 2010. Over the years, he has held several notable positions, including serving as the Youth Focal Point for the UNDP Small Grants Programme in Nigeria and as a Youth Lead Author for the UN Environment’s Global Environment Outlook (GEO6). His work focuses on climate education, adaptation strategies, and community-based solutions to environmental challenges.
His contributions have been recognized internationally. In 2015, he received the Save the Children Award for his efforts toward sustainable development in Nigeria. He was also nominated for the U.S. Department of State’s International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP) and served as the African Youth Champion for the United Nations International Strategy for Disaster Reduction (UNISDR). In 2022, he was awarded the U.S. Exchange Alumni Engagement Innovation Fund for a climate education project in Nigeria and was recognized as one of the Tod’Aérs Global Network’s “2022 Global Young Leader of the Year” awardees.
Through his initiatives, Idowu continues to inspire and empower youth to take proactive roles in addressing climate challenges. His efforts focus on promoting climate education, youth engagement, and sustainable environmental practices across Nigeria and Africa.
Let’s celebrate Olumide Idowu for using his voice and platform to inspire climate action and empower young people across Africa.
