After losing a close friend due to pregnancy and childbirth-related complications in 2011, she began to wonder what was happening in rural communities. Even though her friend was informed, had access to good healthcare services, and was financially empowered, she still lost her life to such complications.
This curiosity was further fuelled by her experience with women giving birth on the bare floor and birth assistants severing umbilical cords with rusty blades or broken glass.
